Can we suppose that a US resume must include a lot of things about conferences activities, teaching activities which are not compulsory in France, and can even seem a little too show off, because of the legal restriction in place in US ? If a recruiter cannot ask so many questions then how will he know about the social integration of the applicant? He has to see that with any professional activity available. On the contrary, it seems that a european recruiter will often see too many activities in a resume and probably will be too impressed to hire the applicant when a lot of different activities are mentionned. In this respect, I would say that both systems have just reached difference balance state for the place where to find out how integrated an applicant is: by asking for professional activities and no questions, by questions an not so much need for detailed list of professional activities.

On the other end, if an applicant consider inadequate any of the questions usually avoided in the United-States, his lack of answer will seem highly suspicious to any employer in France (questions about national origins, marital status, children are still common and seen as perfectly natural). I would recommand to any international student wishing to come to France, to learn just as much as any international student learn about employement interviews in the US. In France, you should not make a fuss about saying where you come from, where and when you studied, how old you are, if you are married or not. Nevertheless, they should note that I agree with the US position because most of the employeurs in France think normal to state age and marital status as a criteria for any position. Therefore, it is still difficult to find a position for woman in age of having babies for exemple of one discrimination attitude.
